It’s always nice to claim some freebies whether it be a video game, DLC or something else entirely inspired by the Nintendo franchises that we love.

For some years, Nintendo has had two forms of free digital currency with its Gold and Platinum coins. The Gold coins are rewarded for making digital purchases via the Nintendo eShop or by registering a physical game cartridge on your Switch. Those Gold coins can then be redeemed to be used as a discount on the Nintendo eShop.

Platinum coins can be earned for completing missions such as taking part in questionnaires, often related to your latest Nintendo Switch game purchase. Arguably, the Platinum points are more valuable than Gold, because you’re able to purchase exclusive physical items from My Nintendo Rewards.

Platinum coins can also bag your digital items, whether it's via the aforementioned My Nintendo Rewards or directly from your Switch console. Such as some snazzy Nintendo Switch profile icons brought to our attention by the Twitter account, NSO Icons Alerts.

The latest batch of Nintendo Switch Online icons are available now inspired by some of your favourite Super Mario characters and games such as Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and more.

To claim these free icons, you will have to spend between five and ten Platinum coins on each, depending on what you choose. You can access the icons by visiting the ‘Missions & Rewards’ section via the home screen of your Nintendo Switch.

The profile icons in question tend to rotate every week, so you should claim these freebies ASAP before they disappear. These particular icons featured in this article will expire on 19 August 2024.

The next big exclusive coming to the Nintendo Switch is The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, so hopefully, we’ll get some new Zelda and Link-inspired icons soon.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will be released on 26 September 2024.
