As if to mark the end of a hectic week, Nintendo is once again dropping the goods to tie into one of its upcoming first-party releases.
The Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 are going to be getting quite a few games this year, though depending on who you ask, it’s nowhere near enough.
One of the company’s upcoming titles looks quite refreshing though, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. It’s a side-scrolling platformer that online previews have teased as a creative departure from Nintendo’s usual Yoshi games.
Yoshi first appeared in Super Mario World back in 1990 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
Over the years, he’s been a recurring character in the series and eventually acquired his own spin-off series. His most recent appearance was on the big-screen for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

One of Yoshi’s earliest games was simply titled Yoshi, and was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Nintendo GameBoy.
The puzzle games were released in 1991 and are simple tile-matchers. Goombas, Boos, Bloopers and more make up the shapes and all you have to do is line them up in pairs, or collect a bunch of them inside an egg for more points.
It’s not exactly a Game of the Year winner but it’s cute enough, and you can play the NES version with the most basic tier of Nintendo Switch Online.
To celebrate this old-school classic though Nintendo has released both iterations of the soundtrack on Nintendo Music, which can be played through the app at your leisure.
Most of the tracks aren’t winners in all fairness, but we know there are plenty of gamers out there who appreciate video game music, so someone’s bound to be happy with this.
The Game Boy setlist consists of 18 tracks lasting for 25 minutes, whereas the NES list is shorter with only 11 tracks lasting 15 minutes. Why the Game Boy version has more songs is beyond us.
Both soundtracks are available in your Nintendo Music app now, but remember in order to use it you’ll need an active Nintendo account in addition to a subscription for Nintendo Switch Online.
Aside from the new Yoshi game releasing later this month, fans were surprised with the reveal of a new Star Fox game.
It’s a remake of Star Fox 64 (yes, another one) and it’s already received flack for its oddly lifelike character designs. The gameplay itself looks fine, but then again it’s pretty hard to mess up a Star Fox game.
The remake also has fans hopeful that the rumoured Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is in the works.
Nintendo is yet to confirm its existence but with next year’s live-action film presumably borrowing its story from Ocarina of Time a Nintendo Switch 2 remake seems highly likely.
