Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Gets Gorgeous Visual Overhaul

A fitting return to Hyrule

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is considered to be one of the best games that came out for the Nintendo Switch, and it’s not difficult to see why.

Both open world Zelda games have been praised for their ingenuity and sandbox elements, but there’s also no denying that they’re some of the most beautiful games you can play on the Nintendo Switch or Switch 2.

However, there will always be modders who want to take it even further. In fact, one Tears of the Kingdom modder has given the game a gorgeous visual upgrade that completely decimates anything the Switch can do.

Running the game on Yuzu, a now-discontinued emulator for the original Nintendo Switch, modder HD Packs has uploaded a video showcasing a new texture pack for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

It overhauls many of the textures in Tears of the Kingdom, as well as using mods to increase framerate and resolution.

The video showcases overhauls to Rito Village, Zora Domain, Goron City, Hateno Village, Cora Lake, Korok Forest, and Lookout Landing.

Check out the video for yourself below.

The mod features improvements such as allowing the ethereal blues of Zora’s Domain and magical green colours in Korok Forest to pop out easier, while Goron City’s lamps and Lookout Landing’s sturdy Hylian architecture are enhanced to fit with the resolution upgrade.

Sure, Tears of the Kingdom was already a very gorgeous game, but this new texture pack elevates that, in my opinion.

Since this version is running on Yuzu, don’t expect to get these improvements for the Switch or Switch 2.

However, the next Zelda adventure is not far away from us now. And hopefully after that, we can get some news from Nintendo regarding what the franchise will be doing for its 40th anniversary next year.
