Today though you’ve got a new Pokémon game to play on the Nintendo Switch, and the best part is it’s free.

Pokémon Champions dropped today for fans all around the world, and it’s basically a free battle simulator.
It cuts out the RPG elements, story, open-world and other parts of the traditional Pokémon formula and simply has you battling it out online to declare yourself as a true Pokémon master.
There’s support for Pokémon Home but there’s a slight caveat, as only fully evolved Pokémon are featured on the game’s roster with the exception of Pikachu, of course.
It’s a solid game though and for early adopters you’ll even get yourself a free download bonus. The bonus was even recently changed to be even more appealing.
Those who download and play the game before 8 April will receive a free Dragonite to add to your team as well as 100 Quick Coupons.
You’ve probably already guessed the coupons are a form of in-game currency and while this bonus won’t have you swimming in disposable income it’s a nice boost nonetheless.
The real highlight is the free Dragonite though. Not only is Dragonite an iconic and beloved Pokémon, they're also a solid addition to your team. They’re usually so hard to get too, often being a late-game ‘mon and usually forcing you to catch a Dratini to evolve it from.
It’s a generous giveaway for a game thousands of gamers were going to play anyway, bonus incentives aside.
So go download Pokémon Champions from the Nintendo eShop today and get your free Dragonite.
Pokémon Champions is available for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 but there are currently no enhancements for the Switch 2 version of the game, not that we’d expect any for a simple battle simulator.
