Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are having a lot of fun with the new resort hotel that’s been added to their islands as part of the surprise 3.0 Update that dropped earlier last week!
One big feature is the resort hotel, which allows other Animal Crossing characters to come and visit your island, populating your island with more characters in addition to your initial roster of villagers.
But one thing got me thinking - players have spent hundreds, sometimes thousands of hours, carefully crafting their island aesthetic. Now, there's just a huge hotel on your dock, which can really take away the immersion.
Somehow, I doubt it's a social commentary on the overtourism crisis that hits major holiday destinations. Although, the parallels can't be ignored. Fortunately, there's a solution to make your new island hotel fit a little bit nicer.
Animal Crossing New Horizons Players Are Having Fun Decorating Their Hotel Exteriors
The resort hotel has quite a large exterior space out in front of the building, and wouldn’t you know it, but it can also be decorated with your own items and furniture.

As such, Animal Crossing players have been having fun decorating their hotel resort exteriors with their own themes and designs, including some amazing transformations using the Simple Panel and the Custom Design app.
YouTuber HorribleGaming has shared four ideas, showing off the hotel exterior with various different designs to make it look a little more lived-in. Jump ahead to 9 minutes to see my personal favourite - a gorgeous Japan-inspired deck.

The YouTuber’s first design is simply called Coastal, and uses a variety of items to make the place look like a seaside fish market, complete with a place for sitting and some safety railings so you don’t fall into the water.
The second idea is called Cozy Town/City, and goes for more of an urban design, using archways and towers to create the illusion that the hotel is part of a larger city.
The third idea is called Rural Japanese Town, and uses a lot of the Japanese props that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has to fit in with players’ islands that utilise that kind of design.
The final design is called Overgrown, and uses nature props, bricks, and other items to give the illusion that the hotel has been around for a long time and is part of the island’s nature sightseeing areas.

Altogether, there are quite a few decent ideas here to get you started. And I'm sure over the next few weeks and months, there'll be even more great designs coming from the community.
Meanwhile, over on Reddit, players have made fun of the new hotel exterior decoration feature by adding some anti-tourist signposts outside of the hotel. I guess not everyone seems to be happy with tourism possibly affecting the sanctity of the island’s peace.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ 3.0 update is available now, and you can grab it for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. A paid upgrade featuring a resolution bump, mouse control support, and microphone features has also been made available for Switch 2.
