Animal Crossing: New Horizons newest update is finally here, and it’s the best released so far.
Nintendo surprised pretty much everybody when it announced Animal Crossing: New Horizons was to receive another content update.
The game dominated the Nintendo Switch in 2020 and while it retained its popularity for a long time the majority of players fell off after a few years. Content updates were slow and many of the new additions had already been seen in predecessors like Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
That’s not the case this time though, as the 3.0 Update adds genuine innovations that might make New Horizons the definitive Animal Crossing game. Hopefully these features are included by default in the next game.
What Makes 3.0 So Good?
One massive reason, more movement options. Don’t get too excited, your villager isn’t going to be doing parkour or Call of Duty dolphin dives but there will be greater control over where and how you move on your island, especially when you’re making it look pretty.

All New Horizons players have lived through the traumatic experience of placing down items and watching them pop into existence in the one place you didn’t want them to go. You’re picking it back up, placing it back down, picking it back up, shimmying to the side, placing it back down. You’re at this for hours as you try your best to make your island look presentable, your villagers snickering at your inability to place things effectively.

I’m exaggerating a bit but trying to make the perfect island has been a frustrating experience for years but the new step mechanic makes it so much easier.
The floor of your island is made up of tiles, and by using steps it’ll ensure you’re moving one tile at a time for greater precision when trying to build up or tear down your island.

It’s accessible through the Construction App and it’s by far the greatest quality-of-life feature the developers have added, it’s going to save us so much time.
This feature is also included as part of the free update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons players and is also available on both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. There’s a separate, paid, upgrade for the Nintendo Switch 2 with some exclusive features but thankfully this isn’t one of them, there’d be hell to pay if it was.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 is finally here, and there’s no better time to return to your island, I’m sure its residents have been missing you.
