Minecraft players baffled by 'ridiculous' game-breaking new update

They seem to be having a lot of fun with it in spite of that however

A new Minecraft update just dropped, titled “Snapshot 24w33a”, and it took about 0.3 seconds for players to figure out exactly how bonkers some of the new improvements are.

As seemingly first noted by Dexerto’s Liam Ho, players have immediately labelled the new update “ridiculous” due to one very specific change to how minecarts function.

Just to clarify, this is the good kind of ridiculous. Players across the board are seemingly having a lot of fun with the update, because it seems to be busted in the fun kind of way and not the broken kind of way.

As Twitter user @WitchOfDusk explained, Snapshot 24w33a introduced “a new gamerule that determines the max speed for minecarts, but it's an experimental feature so you have to enable it when creating a new world”.

In simpler terms, this means that minecarts can go really, really fast now.

Instead of taking my word for it though, have a gander at this video of a Reddit user using a minecart to launch a llama into orbit.

Minecarts aren’t the only thing that received some big changes in the Snapshot 24w33a update though, and you can read through the entire changelog on the official Minecraft website if you fancy a bit of a light reading this afternoon.

If you don’t fancy reading through 5,000 words worth of changes though, I got your back. The main areas of focus in the update seems to be the re-introduction of the “bundles” mechanic, a new “Redstone Experiment” for player to try out, and just some general quality of life updates.

Funnily enough, considering how much space in the changelog is dedicated to the bundles mechanic and the Redstone Experiment, there’s only a few lines about the changes to the minecarts; y’know, the part of the update folks seem to be having the most fun with.
