Naughty Dog fans are pleading for the return of the Jak & Daxter series, a long-lost franchise that hasn’t had a new game since 2009.

It’s no secret Naughty Dog has been responsible for some of the biggest gaming franchises ever conceived, like Crash Bandicoot, Uncharted, and of course, The Last Of Us. They’re a team of developers that very rarely miss when it comes to new games, but fans believe one of their series has been missing for far too long, Jak & Daxter.

Kicking off with Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy on the PlayStation 2, the series follows two unexpected heroes of the same name, in a collectathon game with 3D platforming. Players must find a certain number of items in each area to progress through the game, as well as master magical abilities to help them on their quest.

Despite achieving great review scores for every instalment, the series seemingly faded into obscurity in 2009 with the release of Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier, and hasn’t returned since.

However, Reddit user TheUndeadGunslinger, and fans like them, want that to change, after posting a thread saying: “I wish Naughty Dog would at least acknowledge Jak & Daxter. It's almost as if they're ashamed of it.”

They weren’t alone either, many other fans of the series expressed interest in its return, whether it be a continuation of the series or a remaster/remake.

“From what I heard, after the success of the 'Uncharted' trilogy, Naughty Dog began work-shopping a new 'Jak and Daxter' game for the PS3. But not too far into it …They realized it was only for the money and felt it was better for them and the fans to scrap the project all together.”

“Jak and Daxter was the first open world game with no loading screens. It’s one of the most important video games in history. The series is, for my money, the second best series behind Zelda.”

“Dude, Jak 3 was goated”

Despite having no new projects planned for the series, it still lives on through other Naughty Dog games, most notably The Last Of Us Part 1, which features several in-game cosmetics themed around Jak & Daxter. That being said, it’d be great to see a revival of the franchise similar to the latest Ratchet & Clank games.

You can currently play the first four Jak & Daxter games on PS4 and PS5 through the Jak & Daxter Collection, available on the store.
