Hogwarts Legacy officially the number one selling new release of 2023

Hogwarts Legacy is the best-selling game of the year, thanks to its availability on basically every platform.

Hogwarts Legacy is the best-selling game of the year, thanks to its availability on basically every platform.

After finally launching on the Nintendo Switch, in a surprisingly good condition I might add, Hogwarts Legacy is available on all current-gen platforms.

Check out the trailer for Hogwarts Legacy below

Originally launching on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, the Harry Potter-inspired RPG was later ported to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The Nintendo Switch version was set to follow but faced several delays pushing it all the way back to this month.

Despite many believing it'd simply never release on Switch, a trailer was dropped, blowing fans away with how well it performed on the arguably outdated hardware.

Following its final platform release, Hogwarts Legacy has cemented itself as the highest-selling game of 2023, but it still hasn’t been nominated for any Game Awards.

The developers confirmed as much with a new advert, which was promptly shared on the HarryPotterGame subreddit with congratulations all around.

Fans were thrilled the game has done so well, and are now hoping its presence on all planned platforms will lead to additional updates and DLC expansions to make it even better. The other possibility is Hogwarts Legacy 2, which seems like a no-brainer after the popularity and income the first game has generated.

One fan said: “Hopefully they can build on the base they have and make a more deep game”

Another added: “Very well deserved. It’s not a perfect game, but it’s a great game with lots of charm and clearly a labor of love from the devs.”

Finally someone said: “For all the issues that I have with this game, I'm still really glad we got it and it performed well.

“It was good for what it was and I'm looking forward to having more games set in the Hogwarts universe”
