GTA 6 DLC leak is a major red flag, fans say

Uh oh, this doesn't bode well for GTA 6... Please send help immediately.

I hate being the bearer of bad news, especially for GTA 6, but, let’s face it, this game is dogged by rumour, bad news, and delays. It’s canon now. So much so that I’m not surprised anymore. However, I am concerned, especially by this latest development…

According to a leak of the roadmap for the game’s release, the devs are aiming for 2024 holiday season, with that deadline meaning they could be cutting some of the main game to meet that timeframe. The cut content will then be released as DLC, a decision that fans see as a major red flag, and rightly so.

GTA 6 has been in development for a decade now, with that agonising reality a crushing blow to fans despite their excitement over what the game will offer. Even though the graphics are reportedly “lightyears ahead” of Red Dead Redemption 2, that doesn’t mean everyone is positive that this next GTA instalment will work. One Redditor perfectly summarised what we’re all thinking about the eventual release: “if we end up waiting 13 years for this game and it's not the greatest video game to ever touch gaming…”

I feel that in my bones. This game needs to work. It has to. So when a leak hints that the game will be rushed in its final stages to meet some silly holiday schedule, it’s a genuine concern. That being said, leaks like this need to be taken with a pinch of salt, as one fan was quick to remind others, “Lol, this is the safest guess anyone could make, Tez2 isn’t an insider, he’s a GTAO dataminer, and if the trailer comes out and says 2025, he’ll just go with ‘they delayed it’”.

Those facts might sound harsh, but they’re nevertheless true; Tez2, for those who don’t know them, doesn’t work for Rockstar Games, with his main credentials coming from datamining GTA games. And while they’ve done a good job discovering secrets in the past, this latest “leak” is speculation at its best. Still, regardless of what you think of the credibility of its source, this DLC leak is troubling. As one Redditor so eloquently put it, “The f**king wait for this game is just borderline insane. It’s been more than a decade, this game better be f**king revolutionary.”

For now, all we can do is hope this red flag of a rumour is totally bogus and instead focus on the sheer level of detail and scope that GTA 6 promises to deliver once it finally launches. Anyone else feel like the old Rose from Titanic? “It’s been 84 years…”
