Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree is nearly as big as Dark Souls 3, brace yourselves

We're not worthy or ready

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree isn’t here yet, but we already know it's a chonky DLC.

This hefty beast of an expansion will challenge you in ways you didn’t think possible; while reminding you it hates you more than the base game ever did.

Given the fact that Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is nearly as big as Dark Souls III, we really shouldn’t be surprised at the pain we’ll have to endure.

What will the Tarnished face in Shadow of the Erdtree?

But that’s what we play these games for, right? We want to be challenged; we want to weep as we die yet again; we want to taste victory after an arduous battle.

The size of the DLC is 16.5 GB, which, we can all agree, is quite considerable. As one fan remarked, “The base game is 60 GB... This DLC is f**king huge.”

Someone else commented, “And think about the fact that this is just the brand new content – assets like trees, some enemies, and landscapes will probably be repurposed from the main game. This will be HUGE.”

If that doesn’t quite put into perspective the level of entertainment FromSoftware is bestowing upon its fans, this comment by Deadsap266 will, “Activision selling a DLC telling you it’s a game; FromSoftware selling you a game and telling you it’s DLC.”

Nothing like shade to emphasise just how generous FromSoftware is being.

“It’s incredible how FromSoftware can compress their files so small when triple A devs seem to be unable to even comprehend file compression,” said UmbralUmbreon.

“Just goes to show the care put into making a consumer first experience [that] goes beyond pricing, monetisation methods, level design, QoL, new player experience, etc,” the same user added.

We were already excited – and terrified – about Shadow of the Erdtree, but now we’re almost shaking with anticipation.
