Call Of Duty’s next single-player campaign will reportedly be open world, for the first time in the series’ history.
Call Of Duty’s timeline is a messy thing. Games jump from far in the future, to the past, the modern day and back again, though the next entry Call Of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War will once again put players into a historical conflict.

Additionally, it’s been reported by Insider Gaming the next Call Of Duty game’s campaign will be entirely open world for the first time in the series. In a way we’ve seen previous games test the waters of open world gaming, like Call of Duty Warzone which boasts an enormous map for its battle-royale. More recently, Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (2023) allowed players to choose their own objectives and mission paths during the 3-hour campaign, and featured an open world Zombies mode as well.
Unlike previous entries it’s said Call Of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War will not reuse assets, and will instead be built from the ground up.
Open world Call Of Duty games will seemingly be the norm going forward, as 2025’s planned release is also rumoured to feature an open world campaign. It’s believed the map will be split into several areas/biomes with various objectives to complete by the player.
New Call Of Duty games are often revealed during the summer, which has been the case for the past few years. Following the summer reveal is usually a closed and open beta and then the game’s release by the end of the year, usually in November.

If Activision is to follow its own example we can expect to see our first-look at Call Of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War in a few months, and hopefully a glimpse at its open world.
It remains to be seen what fans think about this change to the single-player, as many disliked the changes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 made to the series formula, seemingly preferring more linear missions as opposed to open-ended ones.
