'Unsettling' photorealistic FPS has gamers convinced it's real-life footage

'Unsettling' photorealistic FPS has gamers convinced it's real-life footage

There's something very eerie about this game.

This new indie first-person shooter is causing a stir for its eerily realistic graphics and body-cam perspective, placing the player in the heart of the action amongst the abandoned buildings.

A lot of the videos that we see on social media and news channels from body-cams are often ones of traumatic events and so the traversal of these decrepit locations from the perspective of the player character immediately puts me on edge. That, combined with the excellent photorealism afforded in the use of Unreal Engine, is convincing viewers that this is actual footage from an actual soldier. Take a look below:

I'll bet you'll be floored when I tell you that this untitled game is the work of only one developer, esankiy. "I deadass thought this was real life until I saw the explosion effect for the gunshot. Unreal graphics," said one. "The color & atmosphere is f*cking perfect, I honestly thought it was real raw footage," added another. At the moment, we're unsure what esankiy's plans are for the game - whether this will be a PC only release, whether it will be multiplayer or offer a solo campaign, where it will be set, and more.

Yet, the clear rapturous reception should be enough to turn publishers' heads and inject some funding and some more resources to get this game into players' grubby mitts. Some have even said that it's an inspired idea for a horror game as the perspective automatically sets the alarm bells off in your brain even without any creatures lumbering out of the shadows. We'll certainly be keeping an eye on esankiy's efforts going forward.
