The multiplayer online battle arena hit League of Legends is celebrating its tenth anniversary this Autumn, and to mark the occasion Riot Games is hosting a special event on October 15 that includes a special look at the past, present, and future of the enduringly popular MOBA. It'll be an unmissable event for League Of Legends fans. Anyone else can probably safely give it a miss.
In addition to the upcoming celebration, Riot Games also confirmed in a recent press release (via PC Gamer) that League of Legendis quite possibly currently the most popular game on PC, and very likely the most popular game in the world right now, with an eye-watering 8 million peak concurrent players logging in to the MOBA every day - a bigger number than the top ten games on Steam combined. That number covers League players across all Riot, Tencent, and Garena regions, and is in reference to the August numbers specifically.
Given that League of Legends is now a decade into its life, that it can still pull in those kind of numbers is seriously impressive. If you've a hankering to see what's coming up from the game in 2020, the October 15 event will be available for all to watch via the magic of a livestream. The stream is expected to run all day and highlight various bits and bobs, but the "main event", as it were, is expected to kick off around 2am BST. If you're willing to stay up that late on a Tuesday to see what updates and changes are coming to the game, you're a better and more patient human being than I.

League Of Legends first arrived on PC on October 27 2009, and was a hit with most players and critics - though some noted at the time that the MOBA's initial launch was less than smooth, with missing features and non-existent matchmaking. Still, its smooth gameplay, creative champions, and striking visuals have helped League remain a firm favourite with gamers all over the world. I mean, those player numbers really do speak for themselves, don't they?
