The Nintendo Switch has gone from strength to strength since launching back in 2017. In America, the home console/handheld hybrid just enjoyed its best ever week of sales, shifting an eye-watering 830,000 units. IGN reports that this brings the Switch's grand total in the US to an amazing 17.5 million.
For comparison, the Wii U managed 13.56 million worldwide. It's great to see Nintendo back on track after the garbled messaging of the Switch's predecessor, it really is.
No doubt this bumper Thanksgiving 2019 week was bolstered by a number of factors. Christmas is coming up, of course, and I've no doubt there are plenty of gamers out there who asked for a Switch and a copy of the latest Pokémon adventure from Santa. Other present-givers are available.

Nintendo also released the handheld-only Switch Lite a few months back which, coupled with the deals throughout Black Friday and Cyber Monday, will have surely attracted plenty of new customers. In fact, according to a report from CNN Business, Switch was the big "winner" of Black Friday.
Not that I think anyone ever comes out of Black Friday particularly well. I mean, a day where people trample one another for cheap products less than 24 hours after a day about being thankful for what you have? Come on. But let's move on, shall we?
You'll not be too surprised to learn that Nintendo software also did very well indeed for itself throughout the week. The recently released Pokémon Sword & Shield continue to do absolute bits for the company, and now sit at over 3 million units sold in the US.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Super Mario Odyssey - all reliable sellers for the console - also did incredibly well. The popular kart racer managed to speed over the 8.5 million mark, while the latest Smash Bros and Mario installments have so far managed 8 and 6.5 million respectively.
Nintendo recently confirmed that it has no plans to reduce the price of Switch consoles anytime soon. Given its continued success, it clearly doesn't need to. At last count, the Switch had shifted 41.67 million units worldwide and over 246 million in combined software.

Not only has it already outpaced the Wii U, but it's also left the GameCube and Nintendo 64 in its dust. If it keeps this pace, could it eventually come for the Wii's impressive 101 million? We'll have to wait and see.
