Nintendo furious following NSFW Splatoon incident

Nintendo furious following NSFW Splatoon incident

Well, this is unfortunate.

A group of VTubers incurred Nintendo's ire following an inappropriate stream of Splatoon 3 that transformed the ink all over the levels into pornographic material.

The VTubers in question were Tomeru Ikinone, Kimiko Kikaze, Sigure, Hinachun, Kudoa Tatsuki, Sofia Sapphire, Teriteri Bouzu and Ryotaro. Using a chroma key to change the ink colour splattered on the match map into a green screen, the VTubers were able to play a pornographic video behind the Splatoon 3 gameplay and reveal parts of the video as the game progressed. Automaton, the outlet that reported on this unfortunate incident initially, says that the stream was shared on social media under a hashtag that translated to "adult video Splatoon" and the two teams were competing to see who would be banned first. While this is oddly ingenious, Splatoon 3 is a game that's popular with children, and if children had seen the stream while they were scrolling through Splatoon 3 videos on YouTube, they would have been exposed to completely inappropriate content.

Since the stream, the VTubers involved have issued an apology. "I made light of breaking the terms of service and simply jumped at the novel and interesting idea," said Ikinone while wearing a dinosaur costume. Understandably, Nintendo wasn't impressed. "Nintendo reserves the right to take legal action against posts that are illegal, inappropriate, offensive to public order and morals, or do not follow these guidelines," reads a recent post on its official website. Obviously, it doesn't specifically state anything about the Splatoon 3 incident, yet it is interesting timing. We'll have to wait and see if this just a warning or a portentous omen for the VTubers.
