PlayStation Finally Adds Feature Xbox Has Had For Years

Took 'em long enough

Sony has confirmed that the all-new PlayStation Plus will introduce a feature that Xbox has had for a very long time indeed.

As I'm sure you're aware, June will see the introduction of PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium, three all-new tiers for subscribers with their own benefits - and games.

Yesterday, Sony announced the first batch of PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PSP, and classic PlayStation games to come to the service. It's a fairly mixed bag that predictably hasn't managed to please everyone, but there are some bangers in there nonetheless. You can check out a full list right here.

Take a look at some of our favourite PlayStation 4 games below! Some of them have been included in PlayStation Plus Extra, and are definitely worth checking out:

Prior to this announcement, there was some concern that access to some of the older games would only be available via a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. However, Sony has confirmed that many of the classic PlayStation, PS2, and PSP titles will be available to purchase individually.

Better yet, if you already own any of the available PS3 or PSP games digitally, you'll be able to download and play them at no extra cost.

While this is a big move from Sony, it's a pretty damning indictment of just how backwards the company's approach to backwards compatibility has been for the last several years. Being able to instantly play any generation of previously owned game is something Xbox owners have been able to do for years on the Xbox One, and have continued to do on the Series X/S.

In other words, this is less cause for celebration, and more a case of wondering why on Earth it took Sony so long to catch up on something this basic.
