Mortal Kombat Creator Wants The Rock To Play Series' Main Baddie

This comes after The Rock revealed in an interview that he'll soon be bringing a new "badass" video game movie to our screens.

So, Mortal Kombat (2021) was a movie, huh? I’m not sure I’ve ever heard two people share the same opinion about it, which is surely an accolade in itself. Or not. That’s probably up to interpretation.

Well, even though a sequel hasn’t been officially announced in any capacity, Ed Boon, the creative director of NetherRealm Studios and co-creator of the Mortal Kombat series, has already thrown out an incredible casting suggestion that, regardless of the movie’s actual quality, would no doubt improve it tenfold.

ICYMI... check out the opening scene for Mortal Kombat (2021) below.

This all began when Dwayne Johnson revealed in an interview with Men’s Journal that he’s set to be starring in a brand new video game movie in the near future: “I can’t tell you which game in particular we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year. We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen - one that I’ve played for years. I’m really excited to bring it to fans around the world,” he said.

As you’d expect, speculation began, and it developed fast, but no suggestion was greater than that of the Mortal Kombat creator himself: “He’d make a great Shao Kahn,” he tweeted. Short, sweet, but a sentence that I feel like we can all agree on.

Despite being the main antagonist of the series, Shao Kahn didn’t so much as get a mention in the 2021 movie, only appearing in the form of a mural and statue, so you’d certainly expect that a sequel could see the character play a bigger role. And what better casting could there possibly be than The Rock?

Unfortunately, Boon wasn’t involved in the production of Mortal Kombat (2021), so it’s unlikely he’d have much influence over any casting decisions for a possible sequel, but we’ll just have to see. One thing is for sure though, The Rock is definitely going to be starring in some upcoming “badass” video game movie, we just don’t know what it is yet. Animal Crossing would be an obvious choice, though.
