Michael Keaton's Batman Will Return For ‘Batgirl'

Michael Keaton's Batman Will Return For ‘Batgirl'

An official preview has listed Keaton as part of the cast, joining Leslie Grace and Brendan Fraser

So, Batgirl! That’s a thing that’s happening, if you didn’t know. Work on the feature film started all the way back in March 2017, and it was confirmed in May this year that the film would be a HBO Max original, set to release sometime in 2022, starring Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon.

Well, DC fans will be excited to know that Warner Bros. has released an official movie preview kit, which featured an updated cast list for the upcoming film. It seems that instead of Ben Affleck or Robert Pattinson taking on the role of Batman (who, yes, is set to feature in some capacity), we’ll actually be seeing Michael Keaton reprise his role from Tim Burton’s 1989 movie version of Batman

Also releasing sometime next year is The Flash - check out the teaser trailer below.

It definitely needs to be noted that the preview kit specifically states that "credits are not final and dates are subject to change”, and Warner Bros. haven’t given any further clarification as of yet, but it’s certainly looking very promising.

Looking back, this casting might have already been referenced in an interview that took place earlier this year. Speaking to VRTNWS, directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were asked if Batman would appear in the movie, to which they laughed and said that the Batman involved would be “the real one”. To some fans, no doubt that statement rings very true if it really is going to be Keaton gracing our screens.

Brendan Fraser, everyone’s favourite ‘90s movie crush, is also starring in the film, taking on the role of villain Garfield Lynns, AKA Firefly. It might be slightly obvious from the name, but he’s a pyromaniac - fire is kind of his thing. Earlier this month, the actor was surprised on set with a cake for his 53rd birthday, which was decorated with flames to honour his role in the movie. D’aww.

We’ve yet to see any sort of trailer for Batgirl yet, so it’s all to look forward to next year, assuming it doesn’t get delayed, as many movies have. Fingers crossed!
