The rumoured Metal Gear Solid 3 remake launches next year, that’s at least according to an industry insider and journalist.

In recent years, rumours of a new Metal Gear Solid game, whether it’s a new story, remake or remaster have been so relentless, that we can’t help but roll our eyes from time to time. Sadly, fans' hopes are often dashed when Konami ends up announcing a pachinko machine.

Plucking a few of the rumours out of the air, back in September 2022 there was talk of the original trilogy receiving a remaster. Then in December 2022, series producer Noriaki Okamura teased during an interview with Famitsu that 2023 will be “a year of many announcements”.

Even more recently, an insider claimed that the original Metal Gear Solid was to receive another remake. What’s more, in February 2023, VGC’s editor Andy Robinson teased that Konami has big plans for E3 this year which could include a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, which leads us into today’s story.

Responding to a follower on Twitter who asked Robinson: “Thanks Andy, Do you know if Konami before holding the event will announce it as they announced the SH event?”, he replied: “MGS3 remake is now a 2024 title and there's still talk of MGS re-releases of some kind. E3 window was their marketing plan, last I heard.”

Obviously, we should take all rumours and speculation with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, Andy Robinson is a very credible journalist and surely it would do his reputation harm by sharing speculation without solid knowledge of it being at least somewhat true.

Furthermore, not only does Robinson mention that much-rumoured Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, but he also seems to be referencing the aforementioned remasters. In 2011, Konami released the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection which not only included MGS2, MGS3 and Peace Walker, but also the two NES games as well as other bonus features.

So, if we were to get a modern remastered collection, it will include the classic Metal Gear Solid PS1 game from 1998 as well as other entries that followed such as MGS4. Only time will tell. Hopefully Konami will reveal all during the E3 season this coming June.
