Rockstar Games have been in a bit of hot water lately with fans. Earlier this month, an insider claimed that remakes of both GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption have been scrapped in order for the studio to focus on GTA VI, and that the new-gen versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 have also been cancelled for the same reason.

All things considered, it’s a good job that the upcoming remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 are simply being funded and supported by Rockstar, with the actual development being handled by Remedy Entertainment. Announced back in April, the remakes are set to “be in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production”, so think Control, and stick Max Payne’s iconic face on the front.

Speaking of that iconic face, take a look at the video below to see how game dev Sam Lake became Max Payne in the first place.

As of now, there’s been no trailer released for the remakes, nor has there been any indication of a release window, but thanks to some very talented fans, we already have a glimpse of what the games might end up looking like. TeaserPlay have created a brilliant concept trailer for the Max Payne remake in Unreal Engine 5, which you can take a look at below.

“Man, this gives me so much nostalgia, I was a kid, when I played MP1. The depressive noir atmosphere formed my view of beauty, so now as a grown man, I still love walks in the night city, while the snow is falling,” commented Sanderson890. “Max Payne was the first 3rd person shooter I ever played. This feels like a whole new game without [losing any] of the nostalgia. I really hope you finish it and make it playable,” wrote S.L Bentley.

TeaserPlay haven’t clarified whether they’re turning this into a playable project or not, although in the video description they wrote that they “tried to provide an overview of the gameplay and possible graphics using Unreal Engine 5 [to] determine the level of expectations of us and the fans from the final version”, so chances are, their remake will remain as a concept rather than a full game. That said, Remedy’s remakes are still 100% happening, so it’s only a matter of time before we’ll be seeing Max Payne on new-gen consoles.
