Mass Effect fans unite over perfect live-action Shepard casting

Mass Effect fans unite over perfect live-action Shepard casting

Who could step into the role?

Should Mass Effect ever get a live-action adaptation, many already think we have the perfect Commander Shepherd waiting in the wings.

To be honest, it’s someone you already know. It’s someone who gets attached to practically everything nowadays, too.

BioWare is back with more Dragon Age later this month and it's shaping up to blow your socks off

According to the male Shepherd voice actor, Mark Meer, one actor was floating around conversations for a while - Henry Cavill.

“Henry Cavill, sure, I can see him as Commander Shepard,” said Meer when talking in an interview about the possibility of a live-action show.

Whether Mass Effect needs an adaptation is another question, especially as the story is told over several games.

Personally, I don’t see it. I love Henry Cavill, but he gets attached to every single nerdy IP nowadays when there are plenty of great actors out there.

It would be a tough role to adapt as each player could personalise Shepherd, so while there is a Shepherd on the cover of the game, everyone’s protagonist would look different.

As one Redditor says, “It gonna be a ruff one for me. My Shepard is a black woman.”

Another Reddit user said, with perhaps a hint of irony, “I think he should play every major video game character on TV.”

Of course, the jokes flowed in a Reddit thread about the possibility of Cavill starring in the role with one user saying, “Dunno. He would look weird in a red wig and in a dress. Nah, let's go for a real female actor here.”

It seems that most fans would prefer Shepherd not to appear in a live-action show at all as there are plenty of other characters and stories to tell.

As SpaceWolves26 says, “Nah, give me a series set in the Mass Effect universe that doesn't revolve around a character and story we already have, particularly when that would require canonising a particular version of that character that won't be what most people played.”
