Incredibly, 'Marvel's Avengers' Spider-Man DLC Won't Feature Any Story Missions

Incredibly, 'Marvel's Avengers' Spider-Man DLC Won't Feature Any Story Missions

Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, and Black Panther all got stories, so why not Spidey?

The Spider-Man DLC for Marvel’s Avengers has already had it’s fair share of scrutiny, even before its release. The extra content for Crystal Dynamic’s action game is only set to come to the PlayStation edition of the game, which has upset a significant portion of the (dwindling) playerbase. And now, with its imminent release, those who will have the opportunity to play it may be disappointed to find that the DLC doesn’t even have any story with it.

IGN got a preview of the hero and the content that will accompany Spidey’s release. Despite the release of Kate Bishop, Black Panther, and Hawkeye DLC all getting stories, Spider-Man will not be afforded that luxury. Instead of the usual story element, there will be exposition told in some cutscenes and audio logs you can listen to. How… boring.

Here is our interview with Christopher Judge for Marvel’s Avengers War For Wakanda DLC...

An interview with gameplay director Philippe Therien explains this choice, saying: “We want to spend our efforts on content that everyone can enjoy, so we chose to spend a lot of our energy on the Klaw raid that's coming up at the same time. Really that's a simple decision for us. Spider-Man can play all the content, but then we release a piece of content that's good on all platforms. Really that was a decision that's been that way since the beginning.”

So it seems that the team wanted to make sure that there was fun content coming up for everyone rather than just PlayStation players. And though that's very cool, and inclusive - it probably feels like the release of one of Marvel’s biggest names is a little lackluster. What a shame.

If you're interested in playing Spider-Man, as we’ve said, you’ll need the PlayStation edition of the game. The Spider-Man “Great Power” Hero Event DLC is set to release on November 30.
