Marvel just revealed that someone new will be taking up the Captain America shield and leading the Avengers into battle, and I assure you… there is no way you’re going to be able to guess who it is.
Theoretically, who do you think could officially replace Steve Rogers as the leader of Marvel’s Avengers?
Technically, as far as the Marvel Cinematic Universe is concerned, we already have this answer: Sam Wilson. Arguably, John Walker could count too.
If we’re talking comics, Bucky Barnes already had a shot as his replacement. And if we’re talking MCU spin-offs, Peggy Carter counts as well.

Well, as revealed in an article by Comicbook’s Tim Adams, Cap’s new replacement is… Dani Moonstar?
As Adams notes in his article, Marvel showed off their new X-Vengers series at San Diego Comic Con, alongside some artwork of Dani Moonstar leading the new team (and holding Cap’s shield while doing it).
Marvel has also since released a press release for the event, confirming the team that will be helping Dani counter the new mutant threat.
“X YEARS LATER, Earth still needs the Avengers… but what happens when those who are left have transformed into mutants?!”, reads the press release.

“Dani Moonstar leads a new team of Avengers (Hawkeye, Vision, Water Widow, Shang-Chi, Variable Man and Cannonball) to protect the planet!”
Look, I think Moonstar is cool as hell. Her powers are sick, her design is incredible (especially her Valkyrie fit), and it’s always nice to have more Native American representation in comics.
But even I think this is a wild choice. Not a bad choice, to be clear. I think she’ll be a cool fit for the role. I just would not have bet money on her being the leader of any Avengers team… ever.
Guess we’ll have to see exactly what Marvel is cooking when the first issue of X-Vengers drops at the end of October.
