Marvel quietly confirms our new Black Widow

Played by one of the greats

This Friday celebrates the highly-anticipated launch of Marvel Rivals and with a roster of 33 characters on launch, it seems as though at least one of them will be played by a well-respected actor.

After long last, and a touch of early access, Marvel Rivals is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on 6 December and even better, it is completely free to play.

Developed by NetEase Games in collaboration with Marvel Games, Marvel Rivals is a team-based PvP shooter featuring all of our favourite superheroes (and villains) from across the Multiverse.

Moon Knight will also be joining the Marvel Rivals' roster. Check him out in action below!

Featuring everyone from Thor to Scarlet Witch to the Hulk and Wolverine, the roster is expected to grow as the game progresses so if you are a fan of superheroes and shooters, this is the one for you.

Ahead of its official launch, the official Marvel Rivals YouTube page has steadily been releasing teaser trailers for some of its characters and yesterday, we saw one dedicated to Black Widow herself.

Referred to as the “Super-Spy Sniper”, Black Widow will, as you can probably guess, take on the role of a sniper in the game and a short gameplay trailer gave us a glimpse into her abilities.

“Natasha Romanoff is fully prepared - even if the world is on the brink of disaster,” her description reads.

“Trained in the infamous Red Room to anticipate anything, the Black Widow is always ready for action! For years, she put her unrivalled combat skills to use as a member of the Avengers, keeping pace with some of the most powerful beings who ever lived."

It continues, "Imbued with a life-extending formula and having outlasted most of her enemies and allies, she continues her battle decades into the future. Her goal? Lead the Red Room in its relentless campaign to overthrow the oppressive reign of Doom 2099.”

Alongside her trailer, we also got confirmation as to who will be voicing the much-loved assassin.

None other than Laura Bailey herself.

As the queen of voice acting, she is best known for her roles as Abby in The Last of Us Part II, Mary Jane Watson in Marvel’s Spider-Man and of course, her regular appearances on Critical Role.

Now she will be adding Black Widow to her roster in Marvel Rivals and I, for one, cannot wait to hear her in action.
