Mark Hamill returning as Luke Skywalker for new Star Wars movie, says insider

Mark Hamill could return as Luke Skywalker in the new Rey Jedi Order film, according to one insider.

The upcoming Star Wars release slate looks rather exciting. It’s been a whopping four years since we actually got to see a full-length Star Wars feature film in cinemas. Since the launch of Disney Plus back in 2020, the focus has very much been on streaming.

That’s not a bad thing at all. It’s given us the excellent The Mandalorian and Andor (plus the much more average Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett). We have Ahsoka on the way, which will introduce Thrawn into the live-action universe, as well as Skeleton Crew, The Acolyte, but perhaps most excitingly, Star Wars films are back on the menu too. Most of these are very vague for now. Taika Waititi is developing one project, and we also know that the Mandoverse is leading up to a film project. We do know roughly what’s going on with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s (Ms. Marvel) Star Wars film though.

Speaking of Ahsoka, take a look at the trailer below.

Set 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, the film will focus on Rey’s attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order which, yes, means that Daisy Ridley is rejoining the franchise. I cannot wait. The film is being written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, and it’s believed other sequel cast members could return. If recent rumours are to be believed, one such familiar face we could see might be Mark Hamill’s.

Giant Freakin Robot reported that Hamill and Hayden Christensen would potentially return as force ghosts in the upcoming Rey-led film. It certainly sounds like a possibility, but Giant Freakin Robot do have a rocky track record when it comes to these kinds of exclusives. The plot then thickened though when Fennec Shand actress Ming-Na Wen quote-tweeted the article using the clapping and heart emojis.

Still, I’d take this all with a pinch of salt for now. It would be great to see Hamill again though. There really is no Star Wars without him.
