The Last of Us season 2 of the HBO TV series teases better-infected scenes by one of its showrunners, Craig Mazin.

The Last of Us TV series proved that video game adaptations can work. This adaptation went on to be one of HBO’s most successful series and has left fans excited for what season two will bring.

However, despite the success of the TV series, one common complaint has been the lack of infected. As we know, The Last of Us is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which the cordyceps virus has run rampant turning humans into ravaging popcorn-head-like zombies.

Both The Last of Us Part I and its sequel is full of brutal scenes and gruesome deaths, and continually let the player know that they are in danger. Of course, the infected are not the only threat, because humans are being scummy too (no surprises there).

At its core, The Last of Us is about the father-daughter-like relationship between Joel and Ellie, and how they must endure and survive in this cruel world. It’s also perhaps fair to say that the human story is as prominent as the monsters that plague the world in the video game series from Naughty Dog. Sadly, it’s the latter of which many fans felt was pushed to the background in live-action adaption.

Fans complained about the lack of infected in season one, and this led to the promise of more infected being present in the upcoming second season. Without giving too much away, we were treated to some truly horrific infected in the debut season.

For starters, the noise of the clickers still sends shivers down my spine and the introduction of the Bloater-turned-sex icon was every bit as brutal as the fans would have hoped. We even got a new infected, in the form of a creepy clicker girl.

Still, with the second season on the horizon, not only do many fans want to see more infected, but also a better variety and it seems that’s exactly what we’ll get.

As reported by Comicbook.com, Mazin told Deadline: “We're certainly also going to push the technology that we use forward. We learned so much, particularly in regard to the infected and how to better deliver scenes with them. So, we're just going to keep moving the bar up and up and up. That's kind of our call to arms.”

If it’s better infected that you want in season two, then look no further than the grotesque Rat King. As for when season two may arrive, series showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin tease that filming will begin soon.
