Even though it’s barely been out for 24 hours, the team behind Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment has just revealed that two free updates are already inbound.
The latest game in The Legend of Zelda franchise, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, finally released for the Nintendo Switch 2 yesterday, and it’s had quite the warm reception.
A 79 on Metacritic and an 84% Critics Recommend score on OpenCritic is hardly Game of the Year-worthy, especially in a year like 2025, but it's still extremely solid.
It’s also (barely) an improvement over its predecessor, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which scored a 78 on Metacritic and 79% on OpenCritic. Not sure if they’ll want to advertise that it’s 1% better than the previous instalment on the posters, but it's still an improvement nonetheless.

However, the important thing is that the fans seem to love it. Unsurprising, given that those who enjoyed the first game will doubtlessly enjoy a newer, slightly shinier version of that which came before it, but likely still far more important to Nintendo than the critic averages.

If you’re one of said aforementioned fans, then I have some great news for you. As revealed in a post on the @zelda_musou Twitter account (which is the official account for all things “Hyrule Warriors” related), the game will be getting two free updates at some point in the future (thank you to Eurogamer for the source).
Pre-warning: this has been machine-translated from Japanese, so I can’t 100% verify its accuracy.
Here’s what the post says: “[Free Updates Scheduled]... We plan to release two free updates over the next few days, extending the play time for Hyrule Warriors: Chronicles of Binding War. Please look forward to these updates as well.”
I put the post through a few different translators, and one of them outright omitted the part where it said “over the next few days”, so I can’t say for sure when these “free updates” will end up dropping.
Also, the way it’s worded certainly makes it sound like these are DLC-equivalent content updates, but there is a possibility that they actually mean they’re simply updates– by which I mean, the boring sort of bug fixing updates.
Seems like we’ll have to wait for an official English press release to know for sure, so keep an eye out on Nintendo’s website and socials over the next few days for something a little more concrete.
