Horizon Zero Dawn and Valheim Collide in New RPG You Can Play Soon

Terminator? I hardly know her

You’ll be able to get your hands on this upcoming open-world survival game very, very soon, according to the developers… although I’m not so sure that’s actually true.

If you’re a fan of the bleak sci-fi future of Horizon Zero Dawn and the base-building elements of Valheim, then I have an exciting new game to show you. Said excitement may vary somewhat, however, depending on whether or not you’re a fan of the Terminator franchise.

Terminator: Survivors, developed and published by Nacon, is an open-world co-op shooter set to launch in early access on Steam in 2025, followed by releases on the PlayStation 5, as well as both the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X… maybe.

Alright, I’m getting a bit ahead of myself here. First up, what exactly is the gameplay loop of Terminator: Survivors? Uh, ok, maybe I’m not getting ahead of myself because I’m not entirely sure I can answer that question either.

The Steam page for the game states that players will be tasked with “scouring the surrounding land for materials, information, other survivors and key resources in order to establish a base of operations for your fledgling group”, which they can do by themselves or in co-op (with up to four players).

The issue is, there isn’t any gameplay out there for Terminator: Survivors yet. The game was revealed back in February 2024 during the Nacon Connect presentation, originally slated for an October 2024 release on Steam. We got a neat little cinematic trailer, and that was it.

Following this, in August 2024, the game was swiftly pushed back to an undetermined time in 2025. The developers stated that this was “to ensure that our vision of the post-apocalyptic world of Terminator meets the expected level of quality”.

Well, there are only three and a bit months left of 2025, and we’ve not heard anything since then.

In fact, we’ve not seen a single shred of gameplay in that time. There was a development diary video that followed the initial cinematic trailer, but that only featured a few clips of the assets in the game and no direct gameplay footage.

So, what are the chances that Terminator: Survivors does end up dropping this year? Highly unlikely, personally.

There’s no way to tell how long the game had been in development for prior to its announcement, but the lack of any in-game trailers (or even, really, screenshots) isn’t exactly filling me with confidence. Maybe they’re planning to shadow drop it at some point this year, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
