'Hogwarts Legacy' Won't Have Multiplayer, Devs Confirm

Following the gameplay footage reveal, it was confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy definitely won't feature any multiplayer.

Thursday’s State of Play stream brought us our first proper look at Hogwarts Legacy gameplay, and despite all that time since the initial reveal trailer in 2020, it thankfully seems like the game is on track to meet the lofty expectations of fans.

The stream featured 14 minutes of footage, and showed off a whole host of amazing things, including a gorgeous open-world, broomsticks to fly, duels to participate in, and some adorable magical creatures to befriend. However, even with all that, fans have been left disappointed about the lack of one feature which many had been hoping for.

As reported by Game Rant, following the presentation, the ‘frequently asked questions’ page on the game’s website was updated with loads of new answers to questions fans might have had, and one of these was “does Hogwarts Legacy have online or co-op gameplay?” Sadly, it’s a rather definitive ‘no’ - “Hogwarts Legacy is a single player experience and does not have online or co-op gameplay,” the answer reads.

To be fair, this shouldn’t be too much of a surprise - even before this update, the website said that the game is “an open-world, single-player, action role-playing videogame (RPG) set in the 1800s wizarding world.” Despite that, many gamers were holding onto the hope that things could have changed since the initial announcement, but that certainly doesn’t seem to be the case.

It’s definitely a bit of a shame - it’d be really cool to be able to explore the vast open-world with friends, or even play against them in a Quidditch mode. It still looks like there’ll be plenty to keep players entertained, though.

One thing that fans are going wild for is the confirmation that, yes, you’ll be able to use dark magic in Hogwarts Legacy. Towards the end of the new footage, we see the playable character use the infamous Avada Kedavra killing curse, which suggests we might be able to take some kind of “evil” route in the game. We’ll have to wait and see how this is implemented.

Hogwarts Legacy will be coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC in ‘Holiday 2022’.
