GTA 5 meets Driver in this free open-world Miami crime sim

An amazing total conversion mod for GTA V takes players to the sunlit streets of Miami from the Driver games.

If Los Santos just isn’t cutting it for you anymore and you want to explore somewhere new, the world of mods is exactly where to look, as there are plenty of map expansions to peruse and play.

Check out the trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto game, GTA VI, below

Some will take players to Grand Theft Auto versions of real-life cities, like Chicago, but the one we’re talking about today imports a map from an entirely different game, Driver.

It’s called Sunshine Dream, a conversion mod currently in development with the modder FV Mods.

You can check out some videos on the project on YouTube, but to break it down it’s essentially the Miami map from Driver 3 but in GTA V, complete with traffic, cars to steal, police to evade etc.

It’s still in pretty early development at the time of writing but gets updated quite frequently, and a playable version is available for those on PC right now.

Interestingly this isn’t the first time the Grand Theft Auto and Driver series have clashed, as the two actually had a pretty intense rivalry back in the day.

GTA III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas also poked fun at the Driver protagonist, Tanner, like saying he’s useless outside of his car and even featuring a character that looked like him for the player to torment.

Driver clapped back once with an NPC based on GTA: Vice City’s protagonist Tommy Vercetti, but for some reason they made him invincible so he’d always kill the player eventually.

Anyway, it’s great to see the two franchises clash in a more positive way, even if it’s only through an unofficial mod for GTA V.
