Hogwarts Legacy PS4 performance leaves gamers floored

Gamers have been comparing Hogwarts Legacy's performance on PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5, and are in agreement that the last-gen version is great.

Today is the day - almost three months after its initial release, Hogwarts Legacy is out now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, allowing gamers who don’t own a new-gen console or PC to experience the Wizarding World RPG that’s been dominating the internet.

Considering how huge the game is, I’m sure that I’m not the only one who was a little bit dubious of how well Hogwarts Legacy would actually run on previous-gen consoles when it came down to it. As I’m sure you’ll remember, the game was originally supposed to release across all platforms on the same day, but the Xbox One, PS4 and Switch versions were all delayed (the Switch version is currently set to release on 25 July). Now though, fans have been comparing the game’s performance on PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5, and everyone is thoroughly impressed by the previous-gen version.

Take a look around Hogsmeade in Hogwarts Legacy below.

Courtesy of YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits, you can take a look at the different versions side by side, and you can’t deny that the devs have done a solid job on them all.

“Honestly I'm pretty surprised, I expected the PS4 version to be a lot worse considering the game already doesn't run perfectly on next-gen consoles and even PC had some issues,” YouTube user Moon Sarito commented. “The months delay really came to fruition, they did a great optimisation on the PS4, I didn't expect it to be able to keep locked 30FPS let alone have a performance mode with unlocked frame rate (and I think it's amazing that it stays very close to 60FPS a few times) the team really did a great job. This makes me more hopeful for the Switch version and [I’m] curious to see how it plays on the base Xbox One as it's a bit weaker than the PS4.”

Others are in agreement: “Very impressive. Massive respect to the devs to not release it along with the current-gen version. Looks like the extra time working on the last-gen version paid off,” wrote micpere1991. “Wow I'm actually impressed how they [managed] to make it look incredible and still run fantastic on last-gen, like I've said before, these guys made this game with love and passion, you can totally see that,” Nicolas Silva A. said. “This is one of the best ports I have ever seen, 100% worth it!” added Luan.

If you’re picking up Hogwarts Legacy today, you might be able to grab some free limited-time DLC later, if you’re quick. Here’s how.
