Hogwarts Legacy’s attention to detail is somewhat inconsistent, but there’s undoubtedly a lot to commend.

Fair to say, it’s nigh impossible to critique Hogwarts castle itself alongside the village of Hogsmeade. Both are so well considered, packed full with hidden nooks and crannies to explore, alongside charming nods to the expansive lore of the Wizarding World.

As for the rest of the open world, well, that leaves something to be desired. It’s definitely a magical, or should I say haunting, experience exploring the Forbidden Forest for the first time. Its gloomy atmosphere is captured well and those spiders instil the same fear I’m imagining Ron felt back in the Chamber of Secrets.

Elsewhere though, there are far too many caves and ruins that feel like carbon copies of one another.

Jumping back to Hogwarts castle though, it’s so intricately designed that Hogwarts Legacy players are still finding unique details to this day, including one pertaining to a certain house common room.

Enjoy a tour of those four common rooms below.

If you didn’t opt for Slytherin house, you likely won’t have experienced this particular detail but even the most dedicated of Slytherins may have overlooked it.

It was brought to light by Reddit user throwoffsun3344 who said, “This was beautiful but awesome. Anyone know what it is though?” The accompanying video showed the player firing a spell at a Slytherin common room window.

As you may know, the Slytherin common room is in the dungeons so this particular window actually looks out under the Black Lake’s surface. The spell attracts the attention of a nearby giant squid who appears at the window to see who cast it.

“The giant squid is prominently featured in the books. It’s something I hope the new HBO adaptation includes. It just adds to the magic of Hogwarts - a friendly squid who sometimes pranks students sitting by the lake,” replied trthaw2, adding some context.

“I literally do this so many times and can’t get it to DO THAT WHY,” 31peach13 added, proving that you may need a bit of dedication and determination if you want to attempt to experience this encounter.

Let’s hope a potential Hogwarts Legacy sequel also displays this level of detail.
