With the news that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in production and a “very big priority” for Warner Bros., fans have been left feeling uneasy about a potential story teaser.

Becoming the top-selling game of 2023 marked Hogwarts Legacy as a standout RPG so it is no surprise that Warner Bros. wanted to capitalise on its success with both a sequel and an expansion of the very first game.

Now with the highly-anticipated sequel in production, fans are eager to see how Avalanche Software will improve on the first game especially as, despite selling over 30 million copies, there were still quite a few issues according to players.

However, a recent report reveals that fans may have cause to worry as Hogwarts Legacy 2 will coordinate storylines with the upcoming Harry Potter reboot on HBO.

The reboot, which is expected to begin filming this summer, is set to retell the story of The Boy Who Lived across a television show format for the first time.

Although fans are excited for this reboot, coordinating storylines is not something that they are looking forward to, according to a recent discussion over on r/HarryPotterGame.

User lunarisita summed it up when they said:

“I'm sorry, but I don't understand the part about coordinating storytelling.

One of the things that made HL so popular was that it was an original story that gave protagonism to an original character—in this case, the player and a new cast—making them the central part of the story.

This was literally a huge part of the marketing as well.

They need to continue being their own thing. Why do I feel like they had more freedom making the first game than they will with the second?

I don’t want a game with the book storylines—I already have the books, the movies, the show, and the eight games. This was something original that we had.”

It does make sense as, despite being set in the same universe, the story of Hogwarts Legacy took place over a century before the events of Harry Potter, allowing us to explore the magical world beyond Harry’s story.

Hopefully Warner Bros. has made the right decision when it comes to this supposed coordinated storytelling.
