It’s fair to say that every gamer has respect for the legend that is Hideo Kojima. As the founder of Kojima Productions and the producer of a number of huge titles, including Death Stranding, Snatcher, and the Metal Gear series, he’s done a lot of good for the games industry.

He’s also known for sharing his thoughts on, well, various things on Twitter. Earlier this year, he took to the platform to commend Paddington 2 as “a masterpiece”. Now, he’s also shared his thoughts on the new Netflix anime series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and it’s fair to say that he enjoyed it.

“I just watched ‘Cyberpunk Edgerunners’ in one sitting! Awesome! Great! Under the recent domestic anime situation, there was a feeling that famous Japanese studios were consumed by the overseas market, but not this one! This is a miracle of squeezing the trigger to the world,” he wrote. “For my generation, the world view and visuals remind me of Yoshiaki Kawajiri's ‘Cyber City OEDO 808’.”

He’s not the only one who thinks that the series is great, either. In fact, the anime seems to have caused a massive surge of players to flock to Cyberpunk 2077, with Monday’s (19 September) concurrent player numbers sitting five times higher than the numbers from the previous week.
