When you are not strategically planning your farm’s layout, running after residents with gifts in the hopes of romancing them, or delving deep into the mines for highly sought after treasures, you will soon discover that Stardew Valley is home to some heartbreaking narratives.
Released back in 2016, Stardew Valley has cemented itself as one of the best video game releases of all time which is impressive considering, at its core, it is a mere farming simulation game.
Developed by just one creator Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone, Stardew Valley tasks players with taking on their deceased grandfather’s dilapidated farm in a town known as, you guessed it, Stardew Valley.
Since its launch almost a decade ago, the farming simulation title has gone on to become one of the best-selling video games of all time and that is not to mention the stack of awards it has attributed to it.

However, despite it being almost ten-years since Stardew Valley was first released, players are still discovering new and, in this case, heartbreaking details after hundreds of hours of gameplay.
Spotted on the nightstand of George and Evelyn’s bedroom, a letter can be found from Clara.
Clara is Alex’s deceased mother and, as we discover through Alex’s potential romance or friendship, she died 12-years prior to the game’s events.
As a result, Alex moved in with his grandparents George and Evelyn, Clara’s parents.
The letter reads as follows:
“Momma - If you're reading this, it means I've passed on. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. Know that I love you both.
Don't be too upset, I'm with Yoba now.
My final request: take care of Alex. He needs a family, something stable. He's a good kid.
Love, Clara.”

How Did we Miss This?
It is a heartbreaking discovery to say the least and one that has been easily missed by many players, at least according to a recent discussion over on r/StardewValley.
“600+ hours of Stardew Valley and I’ve never seen this note before,” user FaxCelestis shared, alongside a screenshot of the letter.
“Someone is chopping spring onions around here I swear.”
It was not long before fellow fans descended upon their comments and shared their thoughts on this discovery.
“That’s why when I marry Alex, the girl child gets named Clara,” one user commented, sharing a heartfelt tribute indeed.
However, another player also missed this important letter.
“Ummm...I was not prepared for this,” they shared.
“I don't know how many hours I have into this game but I marry Alex in almost every save and I've never seen this.
Jesus, that's heart wrenching.
Clara, if you're watching, he's living on the beach, always refilling all the cat's water bowls, and he's got a Sunday tradition with George.”
It just goes to show what else may be lurking throughout the world of Stardew Valley…
