HBO's The Last Of Us Season 2 confirmed following incredible success

HBO's The Last Of Us Season 2 confirmed following incredible success

HBO's The Last of Us TV series has officially been renewed for a second season.

This is the news we’ve all been waiting for. HBO’s The Last of Us has officially been renewed for a second season which means that The Last of Us Part II will eventually be arriving on our TV screens. As an Abby fan, I am overjoyed.

It’s no surprise really. The Last of Us is HBO’s second-largest debut since 2010, and a whopping 18 million people have now watched the premiere episode in the US alone. The second episode then marked the largest second-week audience increase in HBO history. Earlier this week, Ellie actress Bella Ramsey warned fans that they’d need to keep on watching the show to secure a renewal but HBO is aware that it’s got a major success on its hands.

Take a look at the trailer below to see what’s in store this season on The Last of Us.

Confirming the news, the show’s official Twitter account wrote, “The journey continues. The Last of Us will return for another season on HBO.” In a press release, franchise co-creator Neil Druckmann said, “I’m humbled, honoured, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey. The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast & crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations. Now we have the absolute pleasure of being able to do it again with season two! On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog & PlayStation, thank you.”

For the benefit of those who are yet to play the sequel, I won’t spoil the story but I will say that Abby plays a key role and fans are keen to find out who will be playing the character. Initially, Florence Pugh’s name popped up in a bunch of fan casts but now Shannon Berry is seemingly the favourite. The actress not only looks a lot like the character, she’s also followed by Neil Druckmann - and happens to follow him back in addition to Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey and the official The Last of Us account. Suspicious. Showrunner Craig Mazin previously expressed that he’d love to explore the origins of the Seraphites in a potential second season, plus it means we’ll get to see more of fan-favourite Tommy.

Are there any game actors you’d like to see return, just like Merle Dandridge did as Marlene? Jeffrey Wright should return to play Isaac if you ask me, plus now that Westworld is over, the actor might be free to take on another HBO show. It’s all so exciting to think about.
