Halo Players In Love With Surprise Jaw-Dropping Release

That's a very pretty Master Chief

The halcyon days where Halo dominated the discussions around shooters and gaming as a whole are seemingly long gone, with the series seemingly languishing in the proverbial doldrums whilst they work out exactly how to reinvigorate it in the eyes of the player base.

That might mean we'll be waiting a long while for another big Halo release, and maybe even longer for one that delivers on everything we want it to. Fortunately, there is an alternative to be enjoying in the meantime.

Containment is a hugely impressive fan project that features a full 2.5 hour campaign, developed solely by one game development student in their spare time, over the course of several years. Playable in both VR and on flat-screen PC, it has hugely impressive visuals and gameplay and it's quickly drawing attention for just how complete it is.

Under the official YouTube video sharing the project, the developer explained a little about the process, saying, "What started as a small experiment to see what Halo might feel like in VR has been drastically improved, expanded, and refined into a full 2.5 hour campaign. Every system, mission, and encounter has been shaped by years of learning, testing, and countless nights of work."

The comments underneath were also pretty positive about what they'd seen so far, with so many people trying to give it a go that they actually managed to break the Google link.

"Hey! I shared your project on my Twitter and many people liked, shared and downloaded! So many in fact the download link no longer works because too many people viewed the link," one comment read. "Is there an alternate link we can use? I’ll share it with my followers. And congrats on your incredible project! By far the best Halo VR experience I’ve seen and possibly one of the best fan made VR projects!"

"Wow! This caught me offguard so much, it looks amazing! Will play this with just a FPS setting, as I do not have vr myself. All the best for you and your dream," another added.

A third said, "This game while a little jankie was still a lot of fun to play. And it really brought me back to when I was a kid doing the warthog run on Halo 3 in the last mission. It's so great to see people's love for this game still drive epic projects like this and the fact that you made this on your own makes it even more incredible. Keep going, man I'm really am excited to see what you do in the future."

Now obviously don't go into the experience expecting a highly polished, fleshed out experience. It's simply not possible when working solo. But if you bear that in mind, this looks like one of the very best fan projects around.
