A new teaser for GTA 6 was posted and then quietly removed online, but we’ve all already seen it.
It looks like Rockstar Games has some high hopes for Grand Theft Auto 6. We’re still around nine months away from release, but it’s already calling the release “the largest game launch in history”.
This claim was published last week as part of a job advertisement for a Lead Software Engineer on Rockstar’s own website, with a focus of the role being on ensuring the game’s launch goes smoothly.
While it’s quite a bold claim, it’s one that I’m sure no-one can really argue with. Some analysts have estimated the rumoured budget for the game could be one of the most expensive games ever, with some reports even going as high as $1 billion.

So, calling your game “the largest game launch in history” is probably not that bad of an overstatement.

“With the continued growth of Grand Theft Auto Online and the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6, the successful candidate will lead both the evolution and operation of the data platform supporting what will be the largest game launch in history,” the full advert reads, “ensuring it scales to deliver an exceptional experience for millions of players worldwide.”
Still, the tease has caused Rockstar to backtrack on this statement, removing the wording from the job advert just a few days later. Apparently, we weren’t supposed to see it.
It’s possible this phrase refers to the budget spent on GTA 6’s marketing in the lead-up to launch, or it’s perhaps being a little fanciful with the language, referring to the game’s impact on popular culture in 2026.
GTA 6 is set to launch on 26th May, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It was originally delayed from its initial 2025 release window into next year to give the game additional polish and iron out any outstanding issues.

While we still don’t know much about the game’s plot, the last trailer released in May showed off more of GTA 6’s protagonists, Jason and Lucia. It’s assumed that we’ll be getting at least one or two more trailers before release, along with information such as pricing and pre-order editions.
There are some fears that GTA 6 could see another delay, too, potentially pushing the game back to Autumn 2026. However, there is no substantiated evidence to suggest this could be the case.
