GTA 6 Delay 'Rumblings' Suggest a Much Longer Wait

Worries are starting to build

At the time of writing, Grand Theft Auto VI is still on track for its May 2026 release.

However, a recent comment by one industry insider has thrown another spanner in the works with them suggesting that we could be facing yet another delay.

Following an original Fall 2025 release date window, Grand Theft Auto VI was faced with its first delay earlier this year with Rockstar pushing the release date forward to 26 May 2026.

There is no denying that Rockstar aims for perfection and many of us would rather see an incredible product than have the biggest game of all time released in an unfinished state.

However, a delay is still sad news for those who have been waiting well over a decade for the next Grand Theft Auto entry.

Unfortunately, it seems as though a second delay could be imminent according to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson who recently spoke to his colleagues about the “rumblings” of the unfortunate announcement.

“To be honest, I don’t think that it is going to release in May,” he shared on a recent podcast.

“All the rumblings and so on seem to suggest it. Not good enough to corroborate a report on it but I just think that Rockstar are just such perfectionists that, to me personally, I think we’re looking at October.”

He goes on to suggest that Rockstar would pick October for the Grand Theft Auto VI launch because it would then see them reach record sales over the holiday period.

Additionally, it will be a lot closer to 2027 which is the rumoured year that we will welcome next-gen consoles such as the PlayStation 6. This would allow Rockstar to also work on next-gen editions of GTA VI.

As Henderson mentioned, he has no facts or evidence to back up this claim and it is merely his opinion but it is an opinion that many fans have also shared over the past few months.

As of right now, there are just over eight months to go until Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to launch and so far, we have only received two official cinematic trailers.

The lack of gameplay trailers have left fans feeling concerned that a delay is imminent but others believe that Rockstar still has plenty of time to show this over the next eight months.

Overall, thoughts are definitely mixed.

“I do trust Tom Henderson but the game is like 8 months away, there’s no way any substantial analysis at rockstar can possibly conclude the game needs a delay this early, we’ll know in 2026,” Twitter user Synth Potato shared.

User NikTek added, “In all honesty an October release wouldn't matter to me anyway, I'd much rather have a good release than an unoptimized experience.”

With many fans admitting that they would not be surprised by another GTA VI delay, only time will tell to see if Henderson’s worries will come true.
