A big update has come out from the 31 ex Rockstar Games staff fired in October 2025 for alleged "gross misconduct", including potential confirmation of a “top secret” GTA VI feature.
The firings of alleged “gross misconduct” stemmed from employee Discord conversations that did not speak fondly of the company, and accusations that leaked confidential information about GTA VI was spoken about in unofficial channels.
However, reports from Bloomberg suggest that the employees believe they were fired following attempts to form a union, not “gross misconduct”.
In an update to this developing story, one of the rumoured features of the next iteration of GTA Online, which is likely to follow the launch of GTA VI, regards its multiplayer lobbies.

The incredible People Make Games over on YouTube (seriously, check them out), traveled to Edinburgh to speak with the affected employees about the case.
In their report, two of the dismissed employees were accused of leaking a supposedly “top secret” and unannounced GTA VI feature in the union Discord: 32-player multiplayer sessions, rather than the typical 30 players.

I know, this is only a small leap, but maybe Rockstar Games is thinking more about quality than quantity.
Technically, the current version of GTA Online can host 32 players, but that’s 30 players in-game and two spectators.

Could GTA Online 2 Host 64 Players?
I’m sure it would be epic to have 64-player lobbies, causing all sorts of mayhem in Vice City (or wherever else GTA VI might take us), but it might not be a smooth experience.

No doubt, Rockstar Games would have performed stress tests for the next GTA Online, and if only upping the player lobbies by two, it might be its sweet spot. At least for now.
I would speculate that, given the technical demands of GTA VI, its iteration of GTA Online might not be able to cope with a number like 64 players.
Perhaps it might also be too much for some internet connections.
“The PS5 will become the PS4, like an aeroplane turbine,” said pyeteoweb on Reddit.

“32 is already the max number for GTA Online. It will most likely get increased,” claimed laaacrx.
“I think the online will definitely support more than 32 players. The map is going to be huge, so it makes sense to increase the support,” replied DatRapsFan.
Maybe, a big lobby increase is something that we could see in GTA VI on next-gen consoles, because we all know that port will arrive at some point.
All that being said, these are unconfirmed reports, so we should take them with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.

Assuming that Grand Theft Auto VI isn't delayed, it will be released on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The PC port is yet to be announced.
