Grand Theft Auto VI fans are now, quite literally, counting the days until the game drops, following the community’s latest realisation regarding its release date.
When Rockstar Games delayed Grand Theft Auto VI, several corners of the internet (looking at you, r/GTA6) went into a complete meltdown.
Now to be fair, the delay was pretty significant. Going from Q4 of 2025 to May 2026 was, at the very least, a six month jump.

That’s a sizeable chunk of time considering people have been waiting for a new Grand Theft Auto since the release of GTA V, all the way back in 2013.
However, fans recently realised that, actually, the delay isn’t as bad as they thought… because as of today, Grand Theft Auto VI is officially only one year away.
Based on the comments over on the r/GTA6 subreddit, this is somewhat of a relief for some… and less so for others.
“The more I think about GTA VI, the longer the days get” commented user Zylva_.

“It's a weird thing because after the first trailer I kinda forgot about it and went on with my life, but that second trailer still got me thinking about it every day, it's insane!”
“The anticipation on this night one year from now will be out of control”, replied user Bubba_Gump_Corp.
Honestly, I’m on the side of folks who see this as a positive.
When GTA VI was initially delayed, the “May 2026” release date seemed so far into the future that it was difficult to wrap my head around waiting for it.

But now that we’re officially less than 365 days away, it feels like I’m counting the days until Christmas all of a sudden.
That is of course as long as they don’t need to delay it again… which they definitely won’t have to do, right? Right?
