GTA 6 Release Date Countdown Reignites The Hype

The countdown continues

The countdown to GTA 6’s release date has hit a new milestone, and it’s got fans seriously hyped.

Rockstar Games is set to release Grand Theft Auto 6 on 26th May, 2026 after years of hype, and it seems like the date is still so far away.

But considering we’ve all been waiting for over a decade for Rockstar to follow up on the rather monumental GTA 5, what’s another eight months?

As posted on the GTA 6 Reddit page, the countdown to release has just hit 250 days remaining, or eight months and seven days. It’s not so bad when you write it out like that.

GTA 6 fans are obviously hyped, and considering we’re still eight months away, one can only imagine how unbearable the wait will be for them once we hit 2026.

“250 until I disappear for a week,” writes one commenter on the GTA 6 Reddit page.

“Want GTA 6 to release faster? Don't wait for it,” writes another fan. Pretty smart advice.

“My Strat is to convince myself that the sooner it releases the worse it will be (which I mean is technically true),” a third fan writes. “A car I like, a detail I enjoy, even something as simple as a website. The game is theoretically getting more and more content the more it develops. It’s aging like wine. And that helps the time go by faster.”

When it was originally revealed in December 2023, GTA 6 initially had a rough release window of 2025. This was assumed to be the year the game would release until May this year, when Rockstar announced the game had been pushed back to 26th May, 2026.

It’ll be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S at launch, and while no confirmation of PC or Nintendo Switch 2 versions have been made yet, it’s assumed that Rockstar will explore bringing it to these platforms after release.

Rumours suggest that the game’s total development budget has exceeded $1 billion dollars, which would make it the most expensive video game to develop to date. However, those rumours have not been confirmed.

So far, we’ve had two trailers showing off the game’s Vice City area, as well as the game’s dual protagonists Lucia and Jason. It’s expected that a couple more trailers will be released before May, as well as information about pricing, pre-order editions, and any potential collector’s editions.
