GTA VI launches next year, and while that’s very exciting there’s unease on the game’s pricing.

We’re approaching a point in the game industry where the games are starting to become just as expensive as the hardware, with Xbox as a prime example of this as it’ll be raising the price of its first-party titles later this year.

There are ways to work around this, like waiting for sales or buying second-hand, but what about the games that you really need to play on day one, or just really want to.

GTA VI is one of those games I’m sure, but there are concerns that Rockstar Games will take advantage of its reputation and charge an absurd premium for the next Grand Theft Auto title, potentially $100.

However following a new update from 2K and Gearbox, studios behind the Borderlands series, that might not be the case. It’s been confirmed that Borderlands 4, which releases later this year, will cost $70 at launch, with special and collector’s editions costing as much as $100.

This is good news, especially amid concerns that Borderlands 4 would also be a game that costs $100 just for the basic version. Given that Gearbox is owned by Take-Two Interactive which also owns Rockstar Games it’d be safe to assume it’ll follow a similar pricing pattern for GTA VI, hopefully.

“So it’s safe to say that $70 should be the price for triple A games? I still think games should be $50, especially if they’re gonna do a whole DLC run” said one Borderlands fan in response to the news.

Another added “I feel like $69.99 is a realistic, fair price for modern video games. The industry going to $80 is going to be a rude awakening. The big hits will always hit, but everything else will suffer incredibly.”

Take this with a pinch of salt obviously, but GTA VI might not be as expensive as we once thought it’d be.
