GTA 6 price update has fans cautiously optimistic

Hopefully we won't have to rob a bank

With Grand Theft Auto VI expected to launch in just over a year’s time, thoughts have already turned to how much the Rockstar title will actually cost, especially considering it is one of the most anticipated game releases of all time.

Although there have not been any official confirmations of a price, recent price hikes by companies such as Microsoft have fans feeling concerned that purchasing a copy of Grand Theft Auto VI in 2026 may just break the bank.

Last month saw Microsoft announce that it would be increasing the costs of both its hardware and software, with its games expected to cost $80 by the end of the year.

This is quite a substantial increase so it is no wonder that those waiting for the next Grand Theft Auto entry are feeling concerned.

However, a recent comment by Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick may have just put some of those worries to rest.

Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar, will have a lot of input when it comes to the price of GTA VI so this comment has left fans feeling cautiously optimistic.

“Pricing is set at the label level in the context of the individual release,” Zelnick said when asked by a shareholder about the recent price increases from Nintendo and Microsoft.

“We have had variable pricing here for a very long time. And as I said earlier in the call, we want to focus on value. We want to deliver way, way, way more value to a consumer than whatever that consumer pays, that’s our job. We have to do that job and that’s our focus, not on what the top line price is.”

It was not long before eager fans descended on the comments and shared their thoughts about this recent statement.

“Maybe Zelnick is playing smart and won't pursue $80 games *for now* and see how $80 titles perform on the market,” user videotechuk_ wrote.

“Asking for $80 for a 2K sports title is asking for a lot... which might even hinder sales and turn away people. Hard to say how they will still price GTAVI though.”

A fellow user added, “They could charge 200 dollars for GTA VI and people would buy it.”

However, one user was not convinced.

“I don’t trust it,” they shared. “Take-Two and Activision were the first two gaming publishers to jump prices to $70 at the beginning of this generation and then Sony followed shortly afterwards.”

With comments mixed between fans expressing their willingness to pay $80 for GTA VI, others asking GROK to explain the Tweet to them (for some reason), and a small proportion still feeling hesitant about the potential price tag, it seems as though this division will continue until the cost is announced.
