We got another look at Grand Theft Auto VI yesterday as well as the exciting news that pre-orders will finally go live next week, but consider this before you make your purchase.
Pre-orders for the game will go live on 25 June for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 copies. As expected, the PC port will launch sometime next year, though we’re just happy the game is launching at all in 2026.
The platform you choose matters though, especially if you’re looking to be smart with your money.
GTA VI’s price hasn’t been revealed yet but it’ll probably cost around $70-$80. £60-£70 here in the UK. That’s the standard edition, too. If there’s a premium or even a collector’s edition, you may end up paying more.
Keep this in mind though. On PlayStation 5, your pre-order will be taken immediately, whereas on Xbox Series X/S, you won’t pay until shortly before the game’s launch date.
Advert
PlayStation’s pre-order policy demands that the funds be taken from your account straight away in order to secure your copy but Xbox will only take the money just over a week before the game comes out.
So if you’re confident that you can afford to pre-order the game as soon as the pre-order window goes live, PlayStation is your go-to, but it’s not like the digital store is going to run out of copies, so you can always wait if need be.
For a bit more peace of mind, though, pre-ordering through Xbox will mean no money leaves your account until a week before launch, but only do this if you're 100% certain you’ll have the money by then. God forbid you need to invest in a new car or do some work on your house just before launch, so you can’t afford to grab the game.

This isn’t a game-changing hack by any means but it’s worth keeping in mind, especially in this economy.
Also, don’t forget that Xbox still has an active rewards points scheme. If you’ve got any in-store credit saved up, GTA VI would be a pretty good game to use it on, especially if it’s slightly pricier than your average AAA game.
Pre-ordering a digital copy will likely be quick and simple, provided the store pages don’t crash once they go live, but physical copies might be harder to come by.
There’ll be plenty available but this feels like the kind of game scalpers will want to get their grubby hands on so they can sell them at extortionate prices shortly after launch.
Again, we’re just glad that GTA VI is in fact releasing later this year. It’ll be out on 19 November for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. There’s no word on the PC launch at the time of writing.
