Grand Theft Auto VI is exciting, yes. It’s going to (hopefully) be one of the greatest games ever made, yes. But please don’t fall for this bogus pre-order offer folks.
Rockstar Games’ approach to the next Grand Theft Auto has been vexing to say the least as the company outright refuses to talk about its next game, unless it’s delaying it again.
It’s a bit like when you like someone and they don’t like you back. Fans feel soul-crushed that Rockstar won’t acknowledge their feelings and, unfortunately, there are people out there seeking to exploit that.
With Summer about to officially start, gamers are gearing up for GTA VI’s marketing as publisher Take-Two Interactive said it would begin around this time.
We haven’t heard a peep out of the company yet but at the top of our wishlist right next to a new trailer is pre-orders.
Advert
GTA VI is currently listed on the Xbox and PlayStation stores but you can only wishlist it at the time of writing, when many gamers want to secure their copy of the game as early as possible. There might even be some pre-orders bonuses we don’t yet know about.
In an oddly humorous turn of events though, Grand Theft Auto fans are finding pre-orders of the pre-order online. As in websites asking for a deposit so you’re one of the first customers who get a chance to pre-order the game when they go live.
An example was shared by Reddit user Prestigious_Wait7705 with a post showing a website asking for a crisp $10 just for the pleasure of paying $70-ish later on. It’s quite a cheeky operation and it’s not the only one we’ve seen.
Now we don’t think many gamers are going to fall for this. Most will want a digital copy of the game which won’t be hard to come by if you’re pre-ordering through the official console storefronts.
Those after a physical copy though may just be tempted to drop some extra cash to secure one, which we wouldn’t recommend. There’ll be more than enough physical copies to go around from official retailers when the game launches.
This is just a solid example of the air of desperation surrounding GTA VI. Fans are absolutely feverish for the game and the whole world knows it. Even non-gamers know how exciting the next Grand Theft Auto is going to be.
When the game hopefully launches on 19 November there’s every chance some people try to take advantage of this hype. It wouldn’t be surprising to see physical copies of the game scalped and sold at a profit on the second-hand market.
In the meantime, don’t rush into any of these early pre-order offers, just wait for the official pre-orders to go live in the coming months.
