GTA VI has a pre-load that’s available now, as some eagle-eyed fans have spotted. Though, there’s a pretty reasonable explanation for it.
We’re still just under 10 months away from being able to play Grand Theft Auto VI, but it’s clear that fans are getting a little restless for more information.
It’s going to be a while before we get information on things like pre-order dates, pricing, and file size. However, some fans have noticed that the game is now available for pre-load.
As spotted on Reddit back in June, one user noticed that GTA VI could be partially pre-loaded to their Xbox console.

After going onto the Xbox Store and hitting download, they were then prompted to download a 328.8MB file to their system.
Obviously, GTA VI is going to be more than 328.8MB, it would be ludicrous to suggest otherwise. I mean, AAA games haven’t been that size in 30 years. So it’s not like a beta or demo is sitting on your console if you download this file.
What’s really happening here is that Xbox is downloading a small file that will trigger a proper pre-load when it becomes available.
So, you keep a 328MB file on your Xbox now, and then when it gets closer to launch, it’ll start pre-installing the game. It’s a feature that modern Xbox consoles have for most games.

Unless you can spare the storage space, there isn’t really much point to downloading this at the moment.
It’ll just be sitting there, taking up space until it’s ready to install the full game. You’d be better off just setting a reminder on your phone for the week before release.
GTA VI will release on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 on 26 May, 2026.
