GTA 6 Players Brace Themselves for Microtransaction Hell: “They Shouldn’t Exist”

Sadly, they’re going nowhere

GTA VI fans are bracing themselves for microtransaction hell, a pain we all share.

Sadly, microtransactions are going nowhere. Initially, they started quite subtly, providing players with the choice of buying new skins in games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

However, over the years, when publishers and developers realised that there’s possibly even more money to make with microtransactions than actual video game sales, they became part of the grind.

The modern-day video game grind has become so deliberately egregious that it entices the player to drastically speed up the process of unlocking desirable skins by parting ways with real-world money.

One game that has most certainly taken full advantage of microtransactions is Rockstar Games’ GTA V’s multiplayer offering, GTA Online, with its Shark Card currency.

It will come as no surprise that Shark Cards will return in GTA VI’s version of GTA Online, and gamers are now bracing themselves for the inevitable.

“What should Shark Cards be worth in GTA VI?” asked Redditor BumblebeeNo299. “Trust me, I know how much the Shark Cards are hated, but let's face it, they're probably here to stay.”

As expected, fellow members on the thread were keen to share their thoughts.

“Megalodon should be 10 million easily, not that it matters because we all either farm our money or glitch it,” replied Redox1201.

“The game should not have them, nor does it need them,” exclaimed Beardedben.

“I will not buy one single Shark Card,” declared Searchingformovie1.

“They are worth whatever people will pay for them,” said RxinClD, making a fair point.

At the time of writing, Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to be released on 26 May 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Its PC port is yet to be revealed.

As for the new version of GTA Online, it has no release date. It will most likely launch after the base game. Of course, we’ll keep you updated when we learn more.
