It looks like the original 2025 release date of GTA 6 was revealed back in May, it’s just that we all missed it.
If you cast your mind back to May of this year, Rockstar Games dropped the bombshell that it would be delaying Grand Theft Auto 6 until May 2026.
Prior to this, Rockstar had only announced a rough release window for the game, a very vague “2025”. And we never learned the true intended release date before the delay.
However, it appears we may have all missed the original 2025 release date for GTA 6, as revealed by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick.

“It’s a pretty short delay. It’s less than six months,” Zelnick told CNBC back in May. “Generally, when we announce a certain date, we’re able to hit that date.”
With GTA 6’s current release date being slated for 26th May, 2026, that would mean a six-month delay lands the original projected release date around the end of November 2025.

It’s a pretty obvious window to hit, to be fair. Game publishers will want those holiday sales, and landing your game release somewhere between October and December guarantees that you’re going to get a huge uptick in sales.
As for whether GTA 6 will see another delay, that seems to be unlikely.
While some fans believe the game will be delayed to the end of 2026, Zelnick is correct in his assertion that once a solid date has been confirmed, Rockstar tends to hit that on time.
For example, Red Dead Redemption 2 originally had two release windows: the second half of 2017 and then the first half of 2018. But only when it was delayed to 26th October, 2018 was it finalised, and wasn’t delayed anymore after that.

Still, given how wobbly the modern game development scene is nowadays, I’ve learned to never say never.
